Most human beings feel a need to communicate. Without thinking, we greet those we meet in the street. We confide in friends. We offer support to those who stir our compassion by seeming to need our help or sympathy We share our beliefs with those with whom we feel something in common.
Poets mostly write down their thoughts in private, but feel a strong need to share those thoughts. “Is there anyone else out there who feels like this?” Is that why we need to publish what we have written?
Publication represents the overcoming of fear. Poet entrust their thoughts to the kindness of their public. Will that hope, that trust, be fulfilled?
I offer “Late Starter” in the hope that it will.
Robert's poetry reflects his rich and varied memories. Its rhythms retain the disciplines of his early musical training. Its wit and compassion demonstrate a sensitivity shaped by family, friends and faith. Now retired, he considers the ways of the contemporary world and offers his conclusions to those still navigating the pitfalls and peculiarities of busy human life.
